A Million Flecks of Light
Fluttering in response to the movement of passing pedestrians and cyclists, this shimmering sculpture was activated by Atlanta's urban flow. An undulating mirage of reflective color created visual perspective, inviting viewers to look closer and to reconsider the function of the fence. Created from thousands of hand-cut strips of mylar, each hand-tied to the fencing, the sheer magnitude of shimmering strands became an impressive illusion. From a distance the waves of colored mylar dancing in the wind created the effect of 'light static'. A gathering space across from the trail offered audiences another great viewpoint of the piece, the passersby, and the interaction of both.
